ABOUT STAGE GALLERY
Stage Gallery is a non-profit contemporary art gallery located within Set Social Peckham. Stage Gallery opened on the 2nd of November 2024. The space was set up by Elizabeth Alster, who sent a proposal to the curators of SET asking to use the stage, which was being unused, as a gallery space.
Stage Gallery hosts monthly rotation solo shows. Each artist is asked to facilitate at least one community-facing event during their month to help engage their audience with the themes based on their show. This could be anything from a workshop, a reading group, a performance, a lecture, crit etc.
Stage Gallery focuses on multidisciplinary artists who work within mediums which are traditionally discouraged from exhibiting within commercial galleries/open calls. This includes but is not limited to; sound, performance, installation, interactive, video, and other multi-disciplinary & risk-taking work. Most shows will be chosen by Elizabeth Alster however, occasional open calls will be sprinkled in throughout the year
Stage Gallery aims to prioritise accessibility, diversity and affordability. Stage Gallery understands how important it is for these priorities to be at the forefront of all creative decision-making to aid in the dismantling of past outdated systems within the art world.
Stage Gallery is currently unfunded and volunteer-run. To help support each month’s artist financially, there will be a donation box in the space, where all profits will go directly to the artist showing that month. If any work is sold, all proceeds will go directly to the artist, including all ticket sales of their community-facing event.
