EXHIBITION
Damsel Elysium‘s ‘softfalling’ exhibition is a limb of their wider ‘softfalling’ project.
Alongside the release of their EP, they have gathered, curated and created site specific works which speak to the undercurrents of the larger ‘softfalling’ body.
The project, which is an ‘alter to physics’ is a metaphysical exploration of space time, mysticsm and divinity. It speaks to the feeling of inertia, that slow and orientation-less prism which allows light through, whilst simultaneously distorting it. Through giving these notions dual lives as both a sonic and visual endeavour, Elysium folds us into their space of thought.
From the moment of entry, Stage Gallery is submerged in the musicality of Elysium’s practice as the opening door activates a note drawn across violin strings.
Themes of suspension, light and refraction reoccur in the baptism pool, where projected images dive into the water and shatter into tesseractic swimmers.
Finally a praxinoscope built on clear vinyl turns with determined pace, revealing the ghostly presence of Elysium's image.
‘softfalling’ is an ode to sacred physics, it’s a body of work that holds out two palms in order to lead you to the same place.
